What is Kitchen Chemistry?

 

Kitchen Chemistry is a unique STEAM-based program where kids explore the science, math, history, and literacy behind food! Through interactive, edible experiments, students will mix, measure, and discover the wonders of chemistry in their own kitchen creations.

✅ Science – Learn the chemistry of cooking, reactions, and transformations
✅ Math – Measure ingredients, explore fractions, and experiment with ratios
✅ Literacy – Read food-themed stories & follow step-by-step instructions
✅ History – Discover the origins of recipes & culinary inventions

Class Schedule & Age Groups

👧 Ages 8-16 Mondays 10 AM – 1 PM
​

Each session runs for 6 weeks, with engaging, hands-on lessons designed for age-appropriate learning and skill-building.

What Will We Learn?

Week 1: The Science of Baking (June 16)

• Concepts: Chemical vs. physical changes, role of leavening agents

Week 2: Emulsions & Mixtures (June 23)

• Concepts: Homogeneous vs. heterogeneous mixtures, emulsification

Week 3: Fermentation & Yeast (June 30)

• Concepts: Microbial fermentation, carbon dioxide production

Week 4: Candy Chemistry (July 7)

• Concepts: Crystallization, supersaturation, temperature-dependent reactions

Week 5: Acids, Bases, & pH in Cooking (July 14)

• Concepts: pH scale, acid-base reactions

Week 6: Heat as Catalyst (July 21)
